SEALING
1. Do I need to seal my floor? If so, what
do I use?
To give the floor long lasting beauty, we recommend sealing
it with an acrylic sealer and Deco-Finish. Put down 1 to 2 coats of the acrylic sealer and 1 to 2 coats of Deco-Finish (our
urethane sealer). Always test the sealer to ensure desired results. Contact your local Deco-Etch distributor or Lambert Southwest for recommended sealers.
2. How long after neutralizing the floor until I can seal the
floor?
The concrete floor must be completely dry before sealing. When in doubt
about whether the floor is ready to be sealed, wait a little longer.
3. My sealer blushed or clouded up. What happened?
Sealer blush is caused by either not properly neutralizing
the floor or by applying the sealer to a wet floor.
4. How do I apply my sealer?
The choice of applicator is often a personal choice. Most people
use rollers, lambs wool applicators, or less than 50 psi sprayers. Always
try a small area first to ensure desired results. Because of the texture
of the concrete, it is sometimes hard to achieve a smooth even coat
of sealer. Remember, it is better to use multiple thin coats rather
than one heavy coat.
5. What is Deco-Finish used for and where can it be used? Deco-Finish
is a scratch and slip resistant urethane that puts a hard coat on your
sealer. It is alkaline sensitive and easily stripped. Because of this
fact, Deco-Finish cannot be used on bare concrete. It must be used over
a sealer. Be sure to test for compatibility between Deco-Finish and
other sealers. Note, Deco-Finish does not repel water very well and
cannot be used outside.
